Update: Fulani Herdsmen who kidnapped Catholic Priest in Enugu demand for N2.5 million ransom

Some Catholic priests were attacked by Fulani Herdsmen in Enugu State on Sept 26th, (Read here). According to reports, the priests Rev Fr Chetanna Jude Chukwuneke, Fr Emmanuel Dim and Fr Prof Ezeokana were in a car passing along Obimo in Uzo-Uwani when the suspected herdsmen emerged from a bush in a bad spot of the road, and attacked. While Fr Chukwuenke and Fr Prof Ezeokana escaped, Fr Emmaniuel Dim was abducted. A 2.5 million Naira ransom has now been demanded before he is released.

This was revealed today by the Director of Communications at the Nnewi Catholic Diocese, Rev. Fr. Hygi Aghaulor. According to him, the kidnappers of Rev. Fr. Dim - the Rector of Fr. Tansi Major Seminary in Onitsha, Anambra, have demanded a ransom for his release. Aghaulor confirmed that Dim was kidnapped around 7 p.m while the three catholic priests were returning from Nsukka to Onitsha and Nnewi.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference has however directed that no ransom be paid. Aghaulor requested that Nigerians join hands to pray the priest's release.
“We call on people of goodwill to continue to pray for the immediate release of the Vincentian priest. We are tempted to wonder if Nigeria is on the verge of collapse. All over the country, women are being raped and intimidated, innocent Nigerians are being slaughtered,’’ Aghaulor said

Jose Mourinho insists his relationship with Sam Allardyce will not change despite the controversy surrounding the former England manager.

Jose Mourinho insists his relationship with Sam Allardyce will not change despite the controversy surrounding the former England manager.
Allardyce left his role with the national team on Tuesday evening after agreeing with the Football Association that comments he made to undercover Daily Telegraph reporters had left his position “untenable”.
The 61-year-old said on Wednesday morning he was very upset having lasted just 67 days in a job he had craved for much of his career and speaking ahead of Manchester United’s Europa League clash with FC Zorya Luhasnk, Mourinho admitted he had sympathy with the former West Ham boss.
“The only thing I can say is that I like Sam. I feel sorry for it because I know that was a dream job,” he said.
“The second thing is that what happened is obviously not going to interfere in any way with my relationship with him.
“I liked him and I respected him before and that is not going to change. This is between him and the Football Association.”

Photos: RRS nabs two robbers along at Cele Bus-stop, along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway

The operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a two man robbery gang specializing in defrauding unsuspecting members of public around Cele Bus-stop, along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway of Lagos.

The suspects, Emmanuel Anyanwu, 39, an ex-convict and Kennedy Ujagbor, 42, a drug addict, were jointly arrested by the RRS officers at Cele Bus-stop, when a victim from whom they had snatched his bag from the previous day when he failed to fall into their trap, identified them at a drinking joint.

Their victim, Sammy Bolaji, was on his way to Ogun State when he was stopped by the duo of Anyanwu and Ujagbor for his assistance.
"They asked me if I knew a particular address and I told them that I was a stranger in that area…. As I made to leave them, one of them grabbed my bag from behind and took to his heels. The second one followed suit. I ran after them but I guess they knew the route more than I do, so they escaped before people around could even come to term with what was going on…. Sadly for me, in that bag were a sum of N7,500:00, two mobile phones, cloths and other personal effects. I had to discontinue the journey because all I had on me were gone,"
The following day, my mum chose to drive me through this same spot where my bag was snatched. Luckily for me, I saw these same guys sipping alcohol early in the morning very close to the spot. I alighted not telling my mom what I had seen, at least to confirm first…. As things would work my way, I saw RRS’s patrol vehicle passing by and I waved them down, narrated all that happened yesterday and they followed me to where these guy were sitting.
They were shocked to see me with the police. They interrogated them and arrested them after confirming the incident…. They promised the officers that they would retrieve my bag for me in Ketu, where they sold it to,” he stated.
Emmanuel Anyanwu, in his confession said,
"We are swindlers. We are always on the street looking for people to defraud…. Yesterday, we met this guy. Our plan was to play him and it didn’t seem to work out, so we snatched his bag and ran away. His bag is in Ketu."

The suspects revealed their Modus Operandi,
"Normally, what we do is tell our victim that we are foreigners with a huge consignment of mobile phones and stationery…. We would now pretend that we were in search of marketers with enough money to buy the goods…. In the process, we persuade our victims to show interest in buying the goods by dangling before them an irresistible offer. If they show interest, we tell them to demonstrate their seriousness with a commitment by depositing their phones, money or jewelry. That is how we con them."
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Superintendent of Police, SP Dolapo Badmus stated that the police would leave no stone unturned towards reducing crime in the state. The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

Forget about Biafra - President Buhari tells agitators

President Buhari yesterday asked agitators of Biafra to forget the plan. Speaking with some NYSC members, particularly those from the south East, who paid him a visit at his home in Daura, Katsina state yesterday, President Buhari said
“Tell your colleagues who want Biafra to forget about it. As a military commander, I walked from Degem, a border town between the north and the east, to the border between Cameroons and Nigeria.
I walked on my foot for most of the 30 months that we fought the Nigeria-Biafra civil war, in which at least 2 million Nigerians were killed. We were made by our leaders to go and fight Biafra not because of money or oil, because oil was not critical factor then, but because of one Nigeria. So if leaderships at various levels failed, it was not the fault of the rest of Nigerians who have no quarrel with one another. So please tell your colleagues that we must be together to build this country. It is big enough for us and potentially big enough in terms of resources. Those who work hard will earn a respectable living. I have seen this country, I fought for this country and I will continue to work for the unity of this country,’’he said.

Footballer Romelu Lukaku annoyed with club Everton after they leave him to pay his £6,500 private-jet fare

Footballer Romelu Lukaku is angry with his club side Everton because they refused to pay his fare of £6500 from international duty with Belgium making him and teammate Kevin Mirallas to fork out £13000 on a private jet flight back to England from Cyprus after Tuesdaynight’s World Cup qualifying win.

Lukaku is reportedly angry because Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Burnley - all agreed to stump up the £6,500 cost per head for the flight for their players, as they had league games on Saturday but Everton ditched him and Mirallas because their own league game was on Monday.
According to Mirror UK;
Boss Ronald Koeman gave his squadWednesday off then began full preparations for the trip to Wearside on Thursday, and club chiefs did not feel it was necessary to fork out £13,000 to bring their Belgians back early.
Lukaku, who scored his first two goals of the season in the 3-0 win in Nicosia, did not see it that way and is irritated by the club’s stance.
A source said:
“The Belgium players at clubs in the north-west organised a private jet to fly them home from Cyprus, to get back quicker. All the other clubs agreed to pay the £6,500 cost for their players, and Lukaku wasn’t happy when Everton told him they wouldn’t pay. Mirallas was in the same position, and the two of them ended up paying for the flights themselves.”
